THE ROAD TRIP EDIT

Nannacay blue bag and August Swim red and white striped swimsuit

As we step into September, with the last summer bank holiday behind us and autumn and winter looming inevitably ahead, it is only natural that our hearts yearn for one last summer jaunt. Studies show that using your holiday allowance for frequent long weekends makes you happier than splurging it all on one long trip... and is there any better time to escape for a long weekend than in late summer when the temperatures remain high yet the crowds begin to disperse?

Packing all your essentials in one small weekender bag, however, doesn’t evoke quite the same level of delight. So, what is a practical fashionista to do? Fear not... our four tips will help you pack your bags with ease so you can turn all your attention to planning your next escape. So quick, get that hotel booked, the GPS set, and bid farewell to the last of the summer sun in splendid style.

RULE 1: THINK OUTFITS

Consider how you'll be spending your days and make a list of outfits. And remember, there is no such thing as overdressed or underdressed on holiday. Take your absolutely favourite clothes, the ones that bring you maximum happiness – whether that’s beaten-up jeans or feathery finery. Strikeout those that don't work with the weather forecast or the vibe. Opt for dual-purpose items such as this Clube Bossa Midi Dress which you can wear open on the beach as a coverup or dress up with jewellery and snazzy shoes for the night. If you’re anything like us, your holiday self will want to wear flats so leave the heels at home.

RULE 2: CAPSULE COLOUR SCHEME

Pack clothes that work together so you can mix and match based on your mood and plans. Choose a favorite neutral color (e.g. white, beige, or black) and add in colored items as accents. Our recommendation: take inspiration from the summer 2020 runway and mix in zesty tones of olive, saffron, coral, and lipstick red. This ESC Polka Dot Dress will fit right in.

RULE 3: ACCESSORIZE! ACCESSORIZE! ACCESSORIZE!

Don’t lock your jewels away safely in your jewellery box: wear them in abundance and with aplomb – precious gems were made to be worn and admired. Rather keep the diamonds at home...? Opt for layered costume jewellery, a delicate dusting of chokers and chains will take an understated summer dress to another level. Check out our Vanda Jacintho edit for made-to-layer pieces.

RULE 4: NEVER FORGET A WILDCARD PARTY DRESS AND A KILLER SWIMSUIT

You never know when an impromptu invitation will come your way. This ESC top and midi skirt combo will look good anywhere – it’s smart enough to wear to a cocktail party, but also casual enough to wear by the pool. Going on a city break, don’t leave the swimsuit behind, instead think luxury spa or insta worthy roman lido – you never know when the opportunity to splash about might present. Haight has some fab styles which look just as pretty on a city break as they do by the beach. Oh... and if you’re planning a UK break we’d err on the safe side and pack a summer raincoat too.
